Pet Loss and Euthanasia

It's never easy to say goodbye to our family pets whether it's through illness, injury or euthanasia. They are special friends that have worked their way into our hearts, given us unconditional love, and trusted us to take care of them throughout their lives. When they leave us we need to journey through the grief process.

We are asked often to provide home euthanasia. Euthanasia means "Gentle Passing or a Good Death". Families understandably want this service for their pets' comfort and for the privacy it offers them as individuals or as families. We offer this service by not only giving your pet the most gentle, humane and caring passing we possibly can but, as well being there for you throughout the process.  This includes helping to determine when that right time is, coping with the emotional aspects of decision making, acceptance and options and arrangements for the remains of your pet.

Pet loss, bereavement and euthanasia are very personal and emotional issues that every pet owner must face at some point in time. The following related topics are ones that you may find helpful around the issues of euthanasia and quality of life.  Please take the time to look at the information.  Clearly knowing what to expect around euthanasia, understanding the emotional elements and how to give support to your family and to your pet's friends are all important pieces of information that you will want to know during this time.  We hope that what we have provided will be of help during this process.

The traditional stages of grief include denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. Even though they're described as stages, they're not meant to be experienced in a logical or orderly fashion, with defined beginnings or endings. All five stages can be experienced over a period of hours or a period of months; even after you've moved on, some stages can resurface when triggered by a memory or an event.

It is always our hope that we can make, in some way, some of the most difficult decisions of having a pet, just a little easier for everyone.

Dr. Sidorsky and the Mobile Vet of Western Mass is available for gentle home pet euthanasia throughout western Massachusetts including: Springfield, Longmeadow, Holyoke, Chicopee, Northampton, Greenfield, Pittsfield, Athol, Great Barrington and other area towns.

Petsimonial

Doc,

Thank you so much for coming to our house on such short notice this Sunday to help with our cat Molly.  It was important to us that her passing take place in the familiar and comfortable surroundings of her home and you made that possible.

Thank you,

Sean, Laurie, Katie, and Bridie
